How lost property is processed at Cockburn ARC

Overview

Lost property will be available for collection at Cockburn ARC's main reception from the time that the item is found lost until the first Wednesday that follows it being found at the facility. All lost property items will be cleared from the main reception area each Wednesday and taken to the air-handling unit to be prepared for collection by the Boab Network. 

The Boab Network will collect any unclaimed items found at Cockburn ARC and find new homes for the items amongst the remote communities that the network supports http://www.boabnetwork.org/ 

 

Items such as underwear, socks, scraps of paper, or anything deemed unsafe to collect and store will be immediately disposed of.

Water bottles will be stored for 1 week, then recycled before the rest of lost property is moved to the air-handling unit, as they are unable to be donated.

Valuable items will be keep in the facility's safe for one (1) month from the time that the item is found. If the item is not collected within the one (1) month period the items will be disposed of as required by the City's Waste Recovery Park or donated to a selected charity.

 

Actions - All Employees

  1. Take all found lost property to collection crate located in your Department
  2. If the collected items are wet, hang them in an appropriate location that is not in the public eye, to dry them out before putting them in the crate
  3. If the lost property is a valuable item please take it to reception immediately for safe storage

Actions - Closing Employees

  1. If you are working in an area that has a collection crate, ensure that all items are taken to main reception at the end of each day

Operations Supervisors will collect the items in the creche's collection crate when they lock up or take the jackets down

 

Actions - Customer Service Employees (How to respond to getting a lost property enquiry)

  1. Look in the lost property cupboard
  2. If the item is there, ask the customer to specify a day that they intend to collect it in the next  seven (7) days
  3. Ensure that the customer is aware that Cockburn ARC is only able to hold items for seven (7) days and that collection the items in that period is their responsibility
  4. Place items to be collected in the appropriate tray in the Admin office with the collecting customer's name, phone number and proposed day/date of collection on it
  5. Send a Lost Collection Notification email (see email template below) to reception@cockburnarc.com.au

 

Note: Customer's who do not collect their lost property can be called once and then their items will be sent to charities, as above, or the City's Waste Recovery Park

Safety Considerations

  1. Wear gloves and disinfect your hands whenever you handle or finish handling lost property
  2. Ensure if you have communications with the customer, you send a 'Lost Property Collection Notification' email
  3. Be consistent with the system - inconsistency creates issues for your colleagues
  4. Empty water bottles prior to placing them in collection crates
  5. Clean and sanitise collection locations as regularly as possible
